This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time now. Write. Well…..blog. After 10 years of a successful (workaholic) career in corporate accounting, I traded in 12 hour workdays in pursuit of living a more balanced life. I began my journey as a stay as home mom and spent my days feeding my newborn and help my 5 year old daughter with homework. In between I also manage to frequent the gym, shop, read, decorate and cook amazing meals for my hubby. Yet there was only one thing bugging me….my yearning to work. My dad, whom also has a degree in accounting, jokes that I have been counting money and giving financial advice since I was 4 years old. So I decided to incorporate my accounting degree and MBA and ventured into the world of entrepreneurship. Naturally, I founded MLN Accounting & Tax Service in 2010 and continued to count money and give financial advice. Now I’m sharing my wealth of knowledge to help you become a Brilliantly Balanced Baller on a Budget.
What is a Brilliantly Balanced Baller on a Budget? Let’s break this up into two sections to explain what this means……
Brilliantly Balanced is someone smart enough to seek to live a balanced life. You believe life is a gift and you don’t obsess about any one aspect of life. You aim to be well rounded in your faith, family, health, career and finance. You don’t swear to spend all your free time working out, eating raw leaves, at church, or cutting coupons. Your goal is to work to live not live to work. You enjoy time with family and friends as well as time alone. You go the church to deepen your relationship with God not to show off your new outfit. You enjoy different things and often eager to learn something new. You respect different views and opinions yet still true to your own.
Baller on a Budget is someone that likes the nicer things in life but does not believe in spending your entire paycheck to get it. You seek or may have a varied portfolio of savings, real estate, investments and retirement. You prefer quality over quantity when it comes to your wardrobe and home furnishings. You will never be caught dead rocking a $500 handbag unless you have $1,000 in it (or in your disposable bank account) to spend. You shop at Neiman Marcus and the new thrift/consignment shop down the street. You travel out the country but never come home to past due bills because you have paid for that vacation long before your plane left the tarmac. Unlike traditional Ballers, you don’t seek to impress others. You care less what people think of your financial savvy spending. You may sometimes get negative comments from friends when you exhibit share thrifty spending habits.
Is the Brilliantly Balance Baller on a Budget actually brilliant? No. Nor are you perfect. You believe in yourself and believe that each day is an opportunity to work towards your goal.
What about Mrs. Balance Sheet? I’m not perfect and have made financial blunders yet still achieved my financial goals by age 30. If I can do it, you can also. Fortunately, I learned from my mistakes and with my education and continuous learning I have a wealth of financial knowledge to share
